€267m total so far

Across recent years, Tottenham supporters have repeatedly criticised the board for failing to invest significant funds in the transfer window. That accusation certainly can’t be levelled at the Spurs hierarchy this summer as they’ve splurged on new signings with two months still remaining in the transfer window. An overhaul of the Tottenham squad was required after their massive underperformance last season and it was a prerequisite of Roberto De Zerbi accepting the job.
Spurs began their business with the shrewd acquisition of Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi before Jan Paul van Hecke reunited with De Zerbi in a €60m deal from Brighton. That was merely the start with Tottenham ramping up their spending by investing an initial €207m on two central midfielders, Sandro Tonali and Matues Fernandes. Spurs smashed their transfer record with the €99m acquisition of Fernandes from West Ham before breaking it again with the €108m signing of Tonali from Newcastle. The North London club are far from finished in the summer window and we’ve ranked where their current outlay ranks amongst their record spends in a single season.
Tottenham Hotspur: Highest expenditure in single season
As of July 3rd, Tottenham’s total spend so far this summer stands at €267m, which ranks second for the club’s highest expenditure in a single season. Spurs’ biggest spend in a single season was from 2023/24 when they invested €275m on new signings. Several major transfers were completed in the summer of 2023 with Brennan Johnson (€55m), James Maddison (€46.3m), Pedro Porro (€40m), Micky van de Ven (€40m) and Dejan Kulusevski (€30m) all joining.
Realistically, Spurs’ spending this summer will smash their current record for highest expenditure in a single campaign as the window doesn’t close until August. Spurs have surpassed the €100m mark in terms of spending in ten seasons across their history with 2025/26 ranking third. Last season, Thomas Frank was backed with Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus, Conor Gallagher and Mathys Tel arriving but all were flops minus Kudus, who got injured after a promising start.
