Erling Haaland was once again the hero for Norway as his brace against Brazil fired his country into the quarter-finals of the World Cup. The Manchester City star scored an excellent header before arrowing a powerful effort into the bottom corner in the 2-1 win over Brazil. It’s the first time Norway have reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup and Haaland will face the country of his birth, England, in the last eight.

“It is one of the most insane days in Norwegian history,” Haaland beamed post-match. “I have peaked a few times during this tournament, but every time, there is a new peak”. Haaland is unquestionably the biggest star of Norwegian football and he’s shone at his first World Cup with seven goals in five games. Furthermore, his brace against Brazil extended his incredible scoring streak for Norway, which is the longest in competitive games in international football history.

The longest scoring streaks in international football

Remarkably, Haaland is on a 14-game scoring streak for Norway and he’s scored 27 goals during the run. It all started with a goal in the 1-1 draw against Slovenia in 2024 and he scored an incredible 16 goals during qualifying for the World Cup. The 25-year-old didn’t score in two friendlies this year, but we’ve set the parameters as competitive games.

As the graphic above illustrates, legendary German striker Gerd Müller ranks second after scoring in 12 competitive games in a row. Iraq striker Aymen Hussein is the only other player to reach double figures for competitive games scored in. Some famous names complete the top ten list, including Michel Platini, Kylian Mbappé and Cristiano Ronaldo.
