For the fourth time in the Polish PKO BK Ekstraklasa, there will be a player with a market value of €10m or more. Wojciech Mońka from Lech Poznań is now the most valuable player in the Ekstraklasa after his market value rose from €4m to €10m. The Lech defender was one of 478 players to receive new market values in the Polish first division.
Mónka established himself as a starter and managed 31 appearances. But there is a good chance that his time at the Polish champions, despite being under contract until 2029, could come to an end. “For a while it looked like Marcel Regula (market value €7m) from Zaglebie Lubin would be the most expensive outgoing transfer this summer,” Transfermarkt Area Manager Poland Michael Sroka said. “But after the season ended, Mońka quickly established himself as the top prospect in Poland. After making the first team in November, he has been excellent both domestically and internationally. He practically never made any mistakes. Then he crowned his season with the title.”
With that in mind, a transfer appears to be likely. “The club communicated that they would like to keep him for one more year,” Sroka said. “But if a big offer comes in then it will be difficult to say no. Given the contract length and the potential, any transfer proposal would have to be north of €11m, which is the most the club ever received for a player.” That sort of fee was paid only three times for a player in the Ekstraklasa. Before Monka, only three players had reached a market value of €10m or more. Oskar Pietuszewski reached €12m in December 2025; Jakub Kaminski and Kacper Kozlowski both reached the benchmark in December 2021.
Ekstraklasa market values: Mońka close to Pietuszewski level – Brunes and Bobcek up
Among the big winners is also Erling Haaland’s cousin Jonatan Braut Brunes from Raków Częstochowa. Like the Man City star, Brunes is also a center-forward. This season, he has scored 16 goals, which ranks him third in the goalscoring charts and has earned him a €2m increase in market value to €8m. “Brunes is ready for the next step in his career,” Sroka said. “He has scored 40 goals in 81 games for Raków.” His cousin agrees. Haaland recently commented on a social media post with the words: “Well done! Time to move on.”
The top goalscorer, however, was Tomas Bobcek. After scoring 20 goals this season, the Slovakian forward saw his market value increase from €7m to €8m. “Bobcek has been one of the most outstanding strikers over the last few years,” Sroka said. “Despite his goalscoring feats, Bobcek was unable to keep Lechia Gdansk, who had five points deducted ahead of the season, in the first division.” Bobcek is being scouted by Ligue 1 and Bundesliga clubs, and Lechia once hoped for €12m. “But because of the club’s relegation, that sort of fee now feels unrealistic,” Sroka said. “That’s why Bobcek received just a minimal upgrade.”
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
