Lucas Bergvall has informed Tottenham Hotspur of his desire to leave the club on a permanent deal this summer, which has alerted a host of top European clubs. Bergvall arrived in North London from Djurgarden in 2024 with the reputation as one of the best teenage talents in Europe, who possessed the potential to develop into a world-class midfielder. Despite showing glimpses of quality, Bergvall has failed to truly maximise his talent, albeit in a Tottenham side that has struggled badly since his arrival.
The 20-year-old only started 11 English Premier League games for Spurs last season and wasn’t favoured by Roberto De Zerbi as they successfully avoided relegation. Bergvall didn’t start any of the six games under the Italian manager and was an unused substitute for the final two games. With no European football next season, the Swedish international is concerned over his prospects and wants to depart permanently. Therefore, we’ve analysed five potential destinations for Bergvall.
Bayern Munich
Bergvall spent time on trial at Bayern Munich’s academy, before he moved to Tottenham and it’s understood that the Bundesliga champions have retained an interest. The Bavarian club would be a brilliant environment for the Swedish midfielder to develop as they are one of the best slides in Europe currently. Talented youngsters generally thrive in the Bundesliga, but one major concern over a potential move to Bayern is that Bergvall would be far from a guaranteed starter. In Lennart Karl and Tom Bischof, Bayern already have two excellent young midfielders and a move to Die Roten should be categorised as unrealistic.
Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund would represent a brilliant move for Bergvall for multiple factors. Die Borussen have earned the reputation as one of the best clubs in Europe for developing youngsters and they’ve enjoyed great success in plucking players from England. Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho are the most high-profile examples and Bergvall could truly prosper at Dortmund. The biggest problem for a potential move to Dortmund is that Tottenham reportedly want €52 million, which is €17m higher than their record signing – Ousmane Dembele from Rennes for €35m.

Inter Milan
It’s understood that Inter Milan are one of several Italian clubs interested in signing Bergvall. As Serie A champions, Inter would be the most attractive destination for Bergvall and they can also offer Champions League football. There’s been a conscious shift from Inter to lower the average age of their squad, following their 5-0 defeat to PSG in the Champions League final in 2025 and Bergvall fits that policy. Italian clubs, however, are notorious for preferring deals to be structured as initial loans with buy-options or obligations included and that could be problematic.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa enquired over Bergvall in January and they are likely to revive their interest this summer. Villa’s financial constraints have eased significantly after securing Champions League qualification and they’ll be able to afford Tottenham’s asking price. Villa are well stocked in central midfield but Douglas Luiz and Ross Barkely face uncertain futures and Emery could refresh his options with the acquisition of Bergvall.
Nottingham Forest
According to the Athletic, Nottingham Forest have joined the race to sign Bergvall and view him as the ideal replacement for Elliot Anderson. The England international is expected to join Manchester City for a fee in excess of €120m, so Forest will have no issue reinvesting that money into Bergvall. Unlike the aforementioned options, Forest aren’t as prestigious as those clubs and can’t offer European football, so it would be unclear whether Bergvall would be interested in a move to the City club.
