The race for Yan Diomande is heating up with Liverpool establishing initial contact with RB Leipzig over the winger. The Merseyside outfit have stepped up their pursuit of the 19-year-old and are currently leading the race for his signature, according to the Athletic. RB Leipzig have adopted a strong stance, insisting that their prized asset isn’t for sale this summer and they would require an offer of €130 million to reconsider their position.

Diomande only joined the Bundesliga club from Leganes last summer for €20m but his valuation has skyrocketed after his breakthrough season. The Ivory Coast international’s market value has soared from €1.5m to his current valuation of €90m, which is the highest rise of any player in the world across last season. Diomande has been linked with almost every leading European club in recent months and PSG hold a genuine interest. It’s understood that the French club are yet to make an approach due to their star-studded attacking options, but that could change if Bradley Barcola is sold.

Yan Diomande: Liverpool & PSG chase wonderkid

In an interview this week, Diomande expressed his admiration for PSG with French publication, Le Parisien, stating: “My future? I have a team that takes care of that. I try to stay as focused as possible. I’ve loved PSG since I was little. I think my father was a PSG supporter. But I’m not thinking about the future, I’m staying focused on the World Cup. We’ll see what happens after that.” Many believe that Paris is Diomande’s preferred destination but Liverpool are currently in the strongest position.

Anfield chiefs are determined to make a high-profile signing to replace Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian legend has said his goodbyes and that leaves an opening at right-wing, which Diomande would fill seamlessly. It’s unclear, however, whether Liverpool would be willing to match RB Leipzig’s price as they invested heavily last summer to the tune of €481m and they also overspent on Florian Wirtz from the Bundesliga. It’s also imperative to highlight that despite his unquestionable talent, Diomande has only spent one season at a top five league and is arguably not ready to step up to the most demanding league in the world.
