Galatasaray set to clinch Süper Lig - Where do they rank for most titles this century?

Turkish giants Galatasaray have the opportunity to clinch a fourth consecutive Süper Lig title this weekend if they can win away to seventh-placed Samsunspor. It will be the Lions’ 26th title, and they also have been the most dominant Turkish side this century. But when we trawl through the archives and look at the most league titles won in Europe’s top 10 leagues, who comes out on top and where will Gala rank?

To determine this we have counted all league titles won since the 1999/2000 season in UEFA’s current top ranked divisions: Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Liga Portugal, Eredivisie, Belgian Jupiler Pro League, Turkish Süper Lig and the Czech Chance Liga. Teams that are level have been ranked by their most recent league triumph.

Most titles won in top 10 leagues this century

Leading the way, seven titles ahead of anyone else and highlighting their absolute dominance over the domestic division, are Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. Incredibly, they have now won 20 of the 27 titles available this century. If/when Galatasaray do wrap up this season’s title, they will now rank joint-second with as many as 13 league triumphs since 2000. They will be level with Dutch outfit PSV, who have won the Eredivisie 13 times, including this season. Barcelona and Porto are both currently on 12 titles, but both also have the opportunity to wrap up their 13th if results go their way this weekend in LaLiga and Liga Portugal respectively.

Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus then both have 11 titles, with the former expected to add another one to that this term in Ligue 1. Belgian giants Anderlecht have won 10 titles, but remarkably haven’t won their league since all the way back in the 2016/17 season. Real Madrid and Ajax then both have nine league titles this century apiece. Manchester City and Manchester United are both among the teams on eight titles, although the Sky Blues could go ahead if they manage to wrestle the Premier League title from Arsenal this season. Inter Milan could also climb to eight titles this weekend.
