Bernardo Silva will bring down the curtain of his incredible Manchester City career at the end of the season and the Portuguese magician won’t be short of suitors this summer. Since joining from Monaco in 2017, Silva has won six English Premier League titles, five League Cups, two FA Cups and the Champions League. The 31-year-old inherited the creative mantle left by David Silva and he’s firmly etched his name in the club’s history.
Speaking after the weekend win over Arsenal, City assistant Pepijn Lijnders was effusive in praise: “You never replace a player with the same kind of player, because they don’t exist. Bernardo Silva is unique. But every good story comes to an end. I hope he enjoys the last months, it is only six weeks, and he has a good farewell and he deserves all that attention as well.” Silva has decided to bring down the curtain on his City career after nine years in Manchester to pursue a new opportunity and we’ve analysed four potential destinations for the midfielder.
Barcelona
The Catalan club are long-term admirers of the City star and Silva would provide experience to a relatively young squad that Hansi Flick has built. Silva has made no secret of his desire to move to a warmer climate and Barcelona would satisfy that demand, while still allowing him to play at the highest level. The fact that the Portugal international becomes a free agent this summer will further appeal to Barca.
Juventus
It’s understood that Juventus have already approached Silva’s agent Jorge Mendes in a bid to win the race for Silva’s signature. According to reports in Italy, Juve are willing to offer Silva a three-year deal, which will offer him security and the slower pace of Serie A will suit him perfectly as he begins to slow down.

Benfica
Benfica are determined to bring Silva back to his boyhood club, 12 years after he departed. Silva progressed through the ranks at Benfica before moving to Monaco and the sentimental factor will obviously weigh heavily. But it’s understood that Silva would ideally accept a challenge at the highest level and although Benfica can offer that in the Champions League, Liga Portugal is a much lower standard than the top five leagues. Benfica will also be unable to match the contract offers of other clubs.
MLS
There’s been strong speculation that Silva could move to the MLS this summer with several clubs linked. They would be able to offer the City captain a sizable wage as a Designated Player and the lifestyle would also appeal. The major decision will be whether Silva is willing to waive goodbye to European football but he’s represented a major coup for the MLS.
