Andrew Robertson will leave Liverpool at the end of the season. The announcement was made the day after Liverpool suffered a 2-0 defeat in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals against Paris Saint-Germain. Robertson’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season. With the contract set to expire, Robertson has increasingly been part of speculation. Those speculations about his future at the club have now come to an end.
“I think I feel better now that it’s out in the open,” Robertson said in an interview published on Liverpool’s club website. “The hardest bit [in] the last certainly couple of weeks and months is some people that are close to me in the training ground don’t know and more importantly, the fans. The closer it gets, the more and more questions you start to get. I’ve always said that the fans are the most important people at this club and I just think now is the time to tell them what’s going on and that obviously this will be my last year.”

A Queen’s Park product, Liverpool signed Robertson for €9m from Hull City in 2017. During his time with the club, Robertson has played 373 games across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing 69 assists. Robertson also won several trophies with the club, including the Champions League in 2019, the FIFA Club World Cup in 2020, the FA Cup in 2022, and two English Premier League titles. However, after winning the Premier League title last season, this season has been more complicated and the Champions League provides the final avenue for winning a major trophy this year.
What comes next? Robertson linked to several clubs in the rumor mill
What is next for Robertson? “We have a duty as players to finish this season as positively as possible,” Robertson said in his club interview. “It has not been the season that we’ve wanted but it’s up to us to try to finish it on as good a note as possible. For me in particular, that’s what will keep me going from now until the end of the season. I know my journey is coming to an end – I know it has been an incredible journey – but I won’t let up.” The future is, therefore, still up in the air. In the Transfermarkt rumor mill, Robertson has been linked with several clubs, including Celtic, Wrexham, Tottenham, and Aston Villa.
