Alongside Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich, PSG vs Liverpool is the highlight of the Champions League quarter-final ties. Arne Slot’s men travel to Paris for the first leg tonight as massive underdogs against the reigning champions. Liverpool have endured a difficult campaign, losing 16 times in all competitions and Slot is under significant pressure after the damaging 4-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.
PSG’s performance levels haven’t matched their scintillating form of last season but there’s been encouraging signs recently, notably the demolition of Chelsea. The French giants finally accomplished their ultimate goal of winning the Champions League last season, beating Liverpool in the round of 16 on penalties. The two European giants have only met four times in the competition with two wins apiece and we’ve compiled the most expensive XI based on their record signings of players still at either club.
PSG vs Liverpool most expensive XI
Six Liverpool stars and five PSG players make the combined XI with transfer fees totalling €872 million. Alexander Isak is the most expensive player in the team at €145m with the Swedish international expected to return from injury against PSG. The two wingers will be instrumental to Luis Enrique’s side with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembélé amongst the best attackers on the planet.
Florian Wirtz arrived at Anfield in the summer amid huge fanfare and a substantial €125m transfer fee but the German international has struggled, especially in big games. Wirtz is joined by Liverpool colleague Dominik Szoboszlai and João Neves in midfield. Virgil van Dijk is the fourth most expensive defender in history and has the highest price tag amongst the back four with PSG superstar Achraf Hakimi second – Alisson is the goalkeeper.
