The Rennes defender, who will join Liverpool in the summer, enjoyed a €35 million upgrade to reflect the substantial fee that the Anfield club will pay for the French U21 international. Ligue 1 clubs hand more opportunities to youngsters than any other major league and there’s numerous emerging talents currently earning rave reviews. Therefore, we’ve analysed six starlets that are attracting interest from leading English Premier League clubs.

Six Ligue 1 wonderkids linked with Premier League clubs

Ayyoub Bouaddi is viewed as one of the most teenage talents on the planet and he received a €10m upgrade in the update – you can read more about him here. The Lille midfielder is currently involved in an international tug-of-war with Morocco determined to call him up for the World Cup, although he’s currently in the France U21 squad. Bouaddi possesses all the desirable traits in a modern midfielder with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all strongly linked.

Valentín Barco is expected to return to the Premier League to join Chelsea. The Blues’ partnership with Strasbourg is well-documented with players regularly moving between the clubs and Liam Rosenior. Barco struggled to make an impression as a youngster at Brighton at left-back but he’s blossomed since moving into a midfield role and he received a €10m upgrade this update.

Matías Fernández-Pardo is quietly enjoying an impressive campaign for Lille with nine goal contributions in 22 games. The Spanish winger arrived with high expectations for Genk and he’s beginning to deliver on his talent. Atlético Madrid are known admirers of the 21-year-old – who received a €10m upgrade – but West Ham and Newcastle United are also interested.

Ibrahim Mbaye is the latest talent to emerge through PSG’s renowned academy. The 19-year-old has made 19 appearances, including nine starts, in Ligue 1 this season but he faces incredibly strong competition for a place on either wing. Aston Villa were strongly linked with Mbaye in the summer, while Liverpool have also scouted him and PSG could decide to cash in.

Malick Fofana’s campaign has been severely disrupted by injury but he’s just returned and could revive interest from English clubs given his unquestionable talent. Arsenal and Liverpool were both rumoured to be close to submitting bids last summer for the Lyon starlet and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he still moves this summer.

Nantes have endured a nightmare campaign and are firmly engulfed in a relegation battle but Tylel Tati has been a shining light. The young defender is attracting interest from major clubs, who could secure a bargain fee – if Nantes are relegated. But Chelsea are in pole position and they would likely loan Tati to Strasbourg next season.
