99 updates

It has been an update with quite a bit of red at the top of the ranking. Today, Transfermarkt updated the market values of 99 players competing in the Liga Portugal.“This update brought several devaluations for some of the main players from Portugal’s so-called ‘big three’: Sporting, Benfica, and FC Porto,” Transfermarkt Portugal Area Manager Gonçalo Tristão Santos said. That’s an understatement; among the players ranked in the top three, only Sporting’s Ousmane Diomande and Porto’s Diogo Costa are unchanged.

For all the other players ranked between €50m and €45m, there have been drops. Indeed, because of the changes, Diomande is now among the league’s most valuable players, as his teammate Morten Hjulmand and Porto’s striker Samu Aghehowa dropped by €5m to €45m each. In Sporting’s case, the drop we applied to Hjulmand’s market value is the one that stands out the most,” Tristão Santos said. “He remains an extremely important player for the team and is also the captain, but he seems to be a level below what he showed in the previous two seasons. Personally, it seems to me that this will likely be his last season at the club and that may be affecting his mindset.”
When it comes to Porto striker Samu, the story is a bit more complicated. “Regarding Samu, it is important to note that his downgrade is not exclusively linked to the injury he suffered, which will keep him out of action for the next few months and has also ended his hopes of dreaming about a place in Spain’s World Cup squad,” Tristão Santos said. “His performances, although still positive and very important for FC Porto, had already started to decline. Even so, it is worth noting that we are talking about a very young player, only 21 years old, who is now greatly missed by FC Porto in his absence. If he returns to his best level once he recovers from the injury, his market value could rise again.”
Liga Portugal market value update: Pavlidis also drops – Not all bad news for big clubs
Sporting and Porto weren’t the only big clubs hit with several downgrades. At Benfica, 27-year-old striker Vangelis Pavlidis (-€3m to €32m), Georgiy Sudakov (-€2m to €28m), and António Silva (-€2m to €28m) also saw their market values drop. Of those three, Pavlidis is without a doubt the biggest name. “As for Pavlidis, he is currently going through a poor run of form, possibly the worst since establishing himself as a starter and key player for Benfica,” Tristão Santos said. “Overall, he is having a good season, but we decided to reduce his market value because he has recently lost some influence within the team, having scored only one goal in his last nine official matches for Benfica.”
While downgrades are the prevalent story, there are also good news among the big clubs. Indeed, Pavlidis’ teammate Andreas Schjelderup saw his market value increase by 42.9% from €14m to €20m. “On the other hand, Schjelderup is experiencing a new lease of life at Benfica under José Mourinho,” Tristão Santos said. “He has been starting regularly and is making the most of his opportunities to impose himself and deliver performances, scoring goals and providing assists for his teammates.” The 21-year-old Norwegian forward joined Benfica back in 2023 for €9m from Nordsjælland and was quickly loaned back to Danish outfit before permanently joining Benfica in 2024. In December, he received a small downgrade to €14m from which he responded with an excellent form in 2026 and now a significant upgrade.
Meanwhile, at Porto, 17-year-old forward Oskar Pietuszewski saw his market value increase by €8m from €12m to €20m. “Pietuszewski has been one of the surprises of the second half of the Liga Portugal this season,” Tristão Santos said. “He joined FC Porto in the winter transfer window for €8m from Jagiellonia and took advantage of a mix of some temporary absences and a dip in form from other wingers to break into the starting eleven, and, at least for now, he is keeping his place. He has scored in the last three league matchdays and is in great form. He is only 17 years old and has great potential. It’s an exciting player.”
Portugal market values: Luís Guilherme bounces back from time at West Ham – “Pure talent” Camara one to watch
At Sporting, 20-year-old former West Ham striker Luís Guilherme saw his market value increase by 20% to €12m. “He needed to leave West Ham for the sake of his career,” Tristão Borges said. “In England, he was not playing very much, but this move to Sporting has done him good. He is integrating well into the team, and the expectation is that he will become an important player in the future. He is only 20 years old.”
One player to watch is 18-year-old forward Oumar Camara from Vitória Gumarães. “Camara is pure talent,” Tristão Santos said. “He is only 18 years old but is already establishing himself as an important player at Vitória SC. He has already scored four goals in the league and promises not to stop there. It has been a difficult season for Vitória SC after many of their key figures left the club last summer, but Camara has been one of the positive surprises of their campaign.” The French forward saw his market value increase by 400% from €1m to €4m.
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
