The domestic league season in Europe’s top leagues already seems a million miles away now that football fans are in the midst of World Cup fever. However, now that the drama is over for clubs, we can look back on an enthralling 2025/26 campaign. Arsenal won the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years, Barcelona retained LaLiga, Paris Saint-Germain retained Ligue 1, Bayern Munich retained the Bundesliga, whilst Inter Milan wrestled back Serie A. But with the newly-expanded World Cup now underway, which stars could still be feeling the burn of a strenuous 2025/26 campaign with their clubs? We have calculated the outfield players that played the most minutes in the top five leagues last term.
Which players played most minutes last season?
Leading the way, as the only outfield player to every single minute is Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk. The centre-half played all 3,420 minutes, but didn’t show any signs of fatigue in the Netherlands’ opening World Cup game where he scored a fine header. In second place is Everton midfielder James Garner, who played 3,414 league minutes for the Toffees, but did not make this summer’s England squad. Third goes to West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen, who was relegated after playing 3,409 minutes. Bournemouth’s Adrien Truffert (3,380 minutes) and Nottingham Forest’s Nikola Milenković (3,375 minutes) complete the top five.

Elliot Anderson is set to play a big part with England this summer, and is sixth on the list after 3,335 minutes with Nottingham Forest last term. The first non-Premier League player on the list is Espanyol’s Leandro Cabrera, who played 3,330 LaLiga minutes. Everton’s James Tarkowski (3,330 minutes) is eighth followed by the first Serie A player in Hellas Verona’s Victor Nelsson (3,316 minutes in ninth. Mallorca’s Martin Valjent (3,309 minutes) completes the top 10.
