Real Madrid have confirmed that they’ve had a €150 million bid rejected for Julián Alvarez. Last week, Florentino Pérez spent days teasing the name of a player that he was set to bid, if he won the presidential election. It was confirmed on Sunday evening that Perez would continue in the role that he’s held since 2009 after defeating challenger Enrique Riquelme with 65% of the vote.

Riquelme made fanciful predictions during his campaign with his claim that he’d sign Erling Haaland landing him in trouble with Manchester City and the Norwegian’s representatives rubbishing the links. Perez’s insistence that he would bid €150m for superstar ‘galactico’ was taken more seriously with supporters speculating that it could be Michael Olise or João Neves. But it’s now been revealed that it was Alvarez with rivals Atlético Madrid rejecting the bid, pointing to his release clause of €500m. they Barcelona submitted an offer earlier in the window, which was also rejected.

A statement on the Los Blancos website read: “Real Madrid made a €150 million offer to Atlético Madrid for Julián Álvarez’s federative rights after today’s board meeting. Atlético thanked the bid (in the spirit of good relations between the clubs) but rejected it, referring to the player’s release clause.”
