Football’s oldest competition – the FA Cup – resumes this weekend, with just eight teams remaining in this season’s edition. In this term’s quarter-finals, the most mouth-watering tie sees EFL Cup winners Manchester City host Premier League holders Liverpool at the Etihad this Saturday lunchtime. Meanwhile, League One, Port Vale will continue their dream run at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, whilst Southampton host Arsenal and Leeds travel to West Ham. A trip to Wembley and ultimately glory is now in sight, but how long has it been since each of this season’s eight quarter-finalists last won the FA Cup? Let’s take a look.

How long has it been since each team last won the FA Cup?

Leading the way in terms of being the most recent winner of the FA Cup is Manchester City, who won the competition in 2023, when they beat rivals Manchester United in the final. Next up is Liverpool, who won it the previous season, beating Chelsea in the final on penalties in 2022. Then it’s Arsenal, who won the FA Cup in Mikel Arteta’s first season in 2020, when they beat Chelsea in the final. That’s still the last trophy the Gunners have won to date. Chelsea themselves then last won it eight years ago in 2018, when they beat Man United in the final.

Next up is Southampton, who won their only FA Cup trophy back in 1976, 50 years ago – they were in the second division at the time and shocked Man United in the final. West Ham then won it the previous season in 1975, beating Fulham in the final. Leeds last tasted FA Cup glory back in 1972 when they beat Arsenal in the Centenary final. Finally, League One Port Vale have never won the FA Cup. In fact, the furthest they have ever got in the competition is the semi-finals, where they were beaten by West Brom in the 1953/54 season.
