Ahead of the Major League Soccer market value update, which will take place on April 7, Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 105 players in North America’s other major league, Liga MX. At the very top, there is a new most valuable player in the form of 22-year-old Chivas striker Armando González. González replaces wonderkid Gilberto Mora from Tijuana and América’s Raphael Veiga (both unchanged at €10m) at the top of the ranking. Meanwhile, US men’s national team striker Álex Zendejas (América) and Canadian men’s national team debutant Marcelo Flores ( Tigres UANL) received big increases.

“Armando González headlines the update with one of the biggest jumps, moving from €7m to €15m,” Transfermarkt Area Manager Mexico, Osvaldo González Camacho, said. “The 22-year-old striker has quickly turned potential into output, finishing as Liga MX top scorer in Apertura 2025 and already adding 9 goals in 11 matches this Clausura, numbers that firmly place him among Mexico’s most decisive forwards.” Those numbers were enough for González to receive a remarkable 114.3% increase in market value.
González isn’t the only player to race up the standings. Érik Lira from Cruz Azul saw his market value increase by €3m, from €9m to €12m. “The Cruz Azul midfielder has become a benchmark in his position, combining defensive solidity with leadership and international consistency, while also drawing growing interest from European clubs,” González Camacho said. Lira’s market value is also pushed up by a significant market for the 25-year-old defensive midfielder. The same is true for the currently injured Toluca midfielder Marcel Ruiz. “Before his setback, the Toluca midfielder had established himself as the team’s engine, delivering consistent performances and even attracting offers close to $18m, underlining his importance beyond short-term availability.”
Liga MX market values: Lainez resurgent, Zendejas on the up – MLS imports impress
At Tigres, former wonderkid Diego Lainez continues to see his career rekindled. “Meanwhile, Diego Lainez continues his resurgence, increasing from €5.5m to €6.5m,” González Camacho said. “Now fully settled at Tigres, he is delivering his best version again, alongside strong creative metrics that highlight his influence in the final third.” Lainez isn’t the only former wonderkid to receive a significant upgrade. Former Arsenal talent Flores, who has now opted to represent Canada, saw his market value increase by 233.3% from €1.2m to €4m. “At Tigres, his rhythm and influence have grown; even without standout goal contributions, he has become an important piece in a team that reached last season’s final and remains a title contender,” González Camacho said.
While this is good news for Canada, the US men’s national team also has a strong prospect playing in Mexico. “Zendejas also continues his steady rise, increasing from €8.5m to €10m,” González Camacho said. “Now widely considered América’s standout player, his consistency and end product have earned him growing trust from Mauricio Pochettino with the national team, making him a strong candidate for the 2026 World Cup. A consistent goalscorer, he has a rise backed by both performance and international projection.
Two former MLS stars also received big upgrades. At Monterrey, former Cincinnati winger Luca Orellano saw his market value upgraded from €4.5m to €8m. “Backed by strong MLS numbers, he has become one of the most impactful signings of the window,” González Camacho said. The same can be said about Pumas’ midfielder Pedro Vite. “Signed for around $4.5m plus bonuses, the Ecuadorian midfielder has already secured a starting role and, at 24, shows clear room for further growth,” González Camacho said about the former Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder.
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
