Andreas Skov Olsen is set to join Rangers. According to the Danish magazine Tipsbladet, negotiations between Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg and Rangers have come to a positive conclusion. The winger, who was already missing from the VfL squad in last Sunday’s 8-1 defeat to Bayern Munich, will initially join the Premiership giant on loan.

According to the report, Rangers have also secured an option to buy. Skov Olsen, under contract with Wolfsburg until 2029, will travel to Scotland today for a medical examination and to sign the contract.

The right winger was signed from Club Brugge a year ago for €14 million, but failed to impress. The Dane has made only ten appearances this season, six of them in the starting line-up, partly due to injuries. He has not played a single minute under new manager, Daniel Bauer. Skov Olsen’s market value has fallen from €16m to €10m since joining Wolfsburg.

Skov Olsen to Rangers – What to expect

At Rangers, he will link up with German coach Danny Röhl, who took over the 55-time Scottish champions in October and has since averaged 1.89 points per game in 19 games. Indeed, under the German, Rangers have climbed to second place in the standings and although they have one game in hand, are within touching distance of league leaders Heart of Midlothian.

Skov Olsen, who will become the third most valuable player in the Rangers squad, is supposed to help with the second half of the season push towards a potential title. Although the Dane struggled in Germany, much of that was due to the difficult environment he found himself in at Wolfsburg. Although a big spender, the Volkswagen-owned club has seen significant turmoil over the last few seasons, underlined by the 8-1 smashing they received at Bayern Munich last weekend.

With that in mind, there is a chance Rangers have found a bargain by signing Skov Olsen with an option to buy this winter. A powerful winger who can both score and assist, the Danish national team player showed his capabilities at Club Brugge, where he scored 49 goals and 30 assists in 124 games across all competitions. If used correctly, Skov Olsen can blossom once again and reverse his current decline in market value.
