The biggest game of matchday 21 in the Premier League arrives tonight in North London. Arsenal welcome Liverpool to the Emirates stadium in a battle between the reigning English champions and the overwhelming favourites to lift the title this season. After Manchester City drew with Brighton on Wednesday night, Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table was cut to five points but Mikel Arteta’s men have been provided a massive opportunity to extend their lead to eight points.
Arne Slot’s men have produced a feeble title defence and arrive in the capital 14 points behind the league leaders. Liverpool still possess an excellent squad and they remain more than capable of recording an unexpected win on their travels, despite Arsenal’s supremacy. There’s been some famous encounters between two of the biggest clubs in English football across the decades and we’ve analysed which players have registered the most goal involvements in the fixture.
Arsenal vs Liverpool: Players with most goal contributions
Three players in the history of the fixture have provided 14 goal contributions – Roberto Firmino, Steven Gerrard and Kenny Dalglish. It’s the Brazilian Firmino, however, that boasts the best record as his 11 goals and three assists arrived in just 18 games. For comparison, Dalglish required 27 games and Gerrard played Arsenal 34 times across his career.
As the graphic below illustrates, Liverpool players complete the top five with Ian Rush ranking third with 13 goal contributions – Robbie Fowler and Mohamed Salah are tied on 12. Unsurprisingly, Thierry Henry holds the record for Arsenal in this fixture (11) with the Frenchman scoring nine goals and providing two assists against the Anfield club.
